Sean J. Britton began his career in healthcare as a Paramedic. Sean’s entry into healthcare administration was coordinating operations and performance improvement for a trauma and EMS program within a hospital system. While serving as an appointed county public health director, Sean oversaw a staff of 100 professionals and a $19 million annual budget. The health department housed a licensed diagnostic and treatment center, a licensed home care services agency, and a registered limited service laboratory. Under Sean’s leadership the department was reorganized to improve operations, obtained $3.5 million in new grant funding, was featured within national industry publications, and earned a prestigious national accreditation. Sean is currently developing a comprehensive Telehealth program within a regional healthcare system.
Sean’s experience with EMS systems includes service on the county, regional, state, and national level. Sean served as an executive board member for a regional EMS council responsible for coordinating 32 ambulance services, approving county-level operational plans, and making determinations of public need for new EMS services. Sean developed emergency plans and exercises for Maryland’s statewide EMS system. Sean serves as a board member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), and has been involved in developing several position statements and industry reports. Sean is involved with furthering national interoperable emergency communications as a member of SAFECOM within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Sean was a co-author of the All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR) course, contributor to Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) 9th. ed., and has written numerous articles within industry publications.
Sean earned a Bachelor of Science in Community & Human Services, Emergency Management from SUNY Empire State College and a Master of Public Administration from Binghamton University, State University of New York. Sean is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified in Public Health (CPH), a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
